Former India player Gautam Gambhir believes that India will have to face a tough challenge in Australia later this year compared to their 2018-19 tour, which they won by 2-1. While he said that the presence of Steve Smith and David Warner, who missed the earlier series due to ball-tampering bans, will make the difference this time. However, he further added that India has a strong bowling attack to challenge Australia.
While speaking on Star Sports show Cricket Connected, Gambhir said India captain Virat Kohli now would be getting ready for the Australia tour which will be important for the team.
“Whether it was his first tour, whether it was the second tour, this time around, obviously, he would be gearing up for it because it’s going to be a different challenge with David Warner and Steve Smith coming back into the Australian Test line-up,” he said.
He further added, “Because India has got the bowling attack to rattle the Australian batting line-up even with David Warner and Steve Smith, but yeah, it’s going to be a different challenge than what it was last time around. So you would want Virat Kohli to fire plus the bowlers as well because it’s the bowlers that will win you the Test matches.”
Moreover, India legend Rahul Dravid had also said that the Australia tour this year will be tougher as Warner and Smith would pose a challenge for India. Both Steve Smith and David Warner are considered as two prolific batsmen for their side and they can turn the table single-handedly as well.
Dravid further shared that Australia will try to win the series since they couldn’t last time due to the absence of the two best players on their side. Notably, India are set to travel to Australia for a four-match Test series which is scheduled to start from 3rd December at Gabba, Brisbane.
