Former India player Gautam Gambhir, who led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the IPL title twice, has named the player to watch out for in the 2020 Indian Premier League and he is the young player from West Indies – Nicholas Pooran.

The player has already gained a lot of attention and known as the next big thing in Windies cricket by Chris Gayle. He will play for Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2020 starting from September 19 in UAE.

While speaking during a discussion on Star Sports’ chat show Cricket Connected, Gambhir said, “For me, Nicholas Pooran is the young player I would like to watch in this IPL. We talk about AB de Villiers as a 360-degree player but Nicholas Pooran has all types of shots.”

He further added that Pooran hs the ability to play the reverse sweep, normal sweep, and any kind of big shots with ease. And according to him, Anil Kumble who is the head coach of Kings XI Punjab – will bring the best out of the youngster.

On the other hand, former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris has also praised Nicholas Pooran and feels that he needs to be given a bigger role from his side. Styris also said that Pooran should bat up in the order.

Meanwhile, Gambhir has shared his views on Kohli too. He said that if Virat Kohli felt that Royal Challengers Bangalore didn’t have proper balance earlier, he should have been taken more responsibility while choosing the team. Kohli had earlier shared that they have the most balanced side this year since 2016 when they finished as the runner-up.

Gautam Gambhir further added that RCB still have a strong batting unit but the bowlers are likely to step up and do well in the upcoming league.

Notably, the season will begin with the game between the defending champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings on September 19.
