Mahela Jayawardene says the Indians need to improve
While Mumbai Indians have returned to its winning zone and placed at the top of the points table after having won four games out of six, head coach Mahela Jayawardene said that there are a few areas where they need to improve to win another IPL title.
While Mumbai registered their third successive win after defeating Rajasthan Royals by 57 runs on Tuesday, the head coach didn’t clarify the specific areas to work on and improve.
“…right now we have played some consistent cricket and executing a lot of the skills really well with the ball and bat. So, things are going well but we can still improve, there are certain areas but make sure that everyone is focused on each and every day,” Jayawardene said in a video shared by Mumbai Indians’ official Twitter handle.
During the game against Rajasthan, speedster Jasprit Bumrah claimed four wickets whereas Trent Boult and James Pattinson picked up 2 wickets each which helped them to bundle Royals within 136 after they put up a decent total of 193 for 4 in 20 overs on the back of a swashbuckling 79* off 47 with 11 fours and 2 sixes from Suryakumar Yadav.
“We had a few plans, there was a different strategy in this game, using Boom (Bumrah) upfront as well. There was a little bit of movement off the wicket, which we saw when we were batting and we thought we will exploit that,” Jayawardene expressed.
“(Trent) Boult and Bumrah were exceptional with the new ball. Jimmy (James Pattinson) came and bowled in some good areas and the spinners were very good, so I thought it was a clinical performance, and I’m quite happy,” he again said.
However, Jayawardene said that it feels good to win three consecutive games. They will play against Delhi Capitals in their next game on Sunday.
